House and Senate Override Presidential Veto of Medicare Bill
July 15, 2008-On Tuesday both the House and Senate voted by an overwhelming margin to override Mondays Presidential veto of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (H.R. 6331.) The bill, which is now law, averts the 10.6% cut and extends the 0.5% update through 2008 and provides a 1.1% update for calendar year 2009. The funding for the bill comes from a $13.6 billion cut to Medicare Advantage (MA) plans over the next five years and nearly $50 billion over the next 10 years.
